A bearing rarely fails without warning. In many cases, the problem begins before the machine is switched on. A clean fit, the correct mounting force and a sensible lubrication plan matter more than a rushed installation.\n\nStart with clean components. Keep the bearing in its packaging until the shaft and housing are ready. Dirt, metal chips and shop rags can mark raceways quickly. Never strike a bearing through the rolling elements. Apply mounting force only to the ring with the interference fit.\n\nInspect shaft and housing seats for burrs, taper and corrosion. A bearing forced onto a damaged seat may feel fine at first, then run hot or vibrate under load. After mounting, turn the assembly by hand and check that it moves smoothly.\n\nLubrication is another common source of trouble. More grease is not always better. Choose a lubricant that suits the operating speed, temperature and contamination risk, then follow a practical relubrication interval.\n\nFinally, protect alignment. Misalignment puts extra load on the rolling elements and can shorten service life quickly. For applications with high loads, vibration or heat, speak with a bearing specialist before finalising the fit.
